Problems dealing with the jobcentre and benefits

I have been pursuing a claim for jobseekers for over 3 weeks now, the application was put in and i was awaiting their response but nothing has been heard yet. I tried contacting the benefits agency to get it chased but i still haven't heard from them. I find it to be a bit of a joke really, im sure that 3 weeks is enough time to process my claim and start paying me but they seem to think differently. I claimed jsa a long while ago and don't remember it being this hard! infact i remember being surprised at how easy it actually was to claim benefits! perhaps this is the reason they have made it more difficult to stop the cheaters from claiming benefits fraudulently. They now want me to write into them to find out the status of the claim but i am not prepared to do this, it will take a lot longer than needed, why someone cant just look on a computer is beyond me. All they need to do is pop my name in the computer and see where my claim is.
