Trying to Apologize for a Broken Promise

Darla, I know you are upset. I know that this time, it is my fault. I made a promise I can't keep. I am so sorry. But even now that you don't like me very much, I hope that you still know in your heart how much I care for you. After all, you are my best friend in the world and the last thing I want to do is to hurt you. I know I said I was going to watch a movie with you this weekend, but something came up. My teacher in social studies has asked me to do an oral report on Monday and I only have this weekend to work on that special assignment. Aside from the many books that I need to browse, I also have to search in website google for a lot of things and I am afraid I do not have much time left. But believe me, if I could, I would definitely go on with our movie date. If it's okay with you, next weekend would be perfect.
