Trying to find some help on eu consumer advice

I purchased a tv whilst i was abroad last year, was a pain to get home but the price was too good to pass up. I got it home and all was fine for nearly a year until last night when it packed up on me. Now i do have a warranty but i am having difficulty getting it honoured because i am in the uk and the tv was not purchased here and it is not a uk model. I explained that it should make no difference because i still paid for it and therefore paid for the warranty. I need to know what the eu consumer rules are in relation to goods purchased within the eu. I did not think when buying it i would have any problems because it was purchased in europe and will be used in europe! i haven't taken it to the states or anything. I am getting very annoyed with them now though because at the end of the day the tv is broke and i need it fixing.
